Friends Holiday
In the heart of a generous and unspoiled natural setting, the Domaine de Prunget flourishes on the right bank of the Bouzanne River, just minutes from the picturesque town of Argenton-sur-Creuse, known as the 'Venice of Berry.' The Château de Prunget proudly overlooks this unique historic estate, whose origins date back to the 11th century.

Built into the cliffside, two remarkable and unusual houses have recently been tastefully restored, preserving their authentic character: the Mill and the Miller’s House. Both open onto a beautiful garden facing the pond and enjoy privileged access to the estate’s spa.

The History of the PlaceThrough the Centuries

The first recorded owner in the archives is Evard de Prungé, who lived in 1177. The de Prungé family, whose lineage can be traced until 1290, was succeeded through marriage or inheritance by the families of Brillac, Montjohan, Pons, Pierre-Buffière, Poix, Boisé de Courcenay, Nicolaÿ, and d’Armaillé—the current owners being their grandchildren.

From the 17th century onward, the lords of Prunget also owned the Château de la Rocherolle and the imposing Château de Chabenet, leading to Prunget’s gradual abandonment. The austere and uncomfortable feudal castle slowly fell into ruin. In 1960, the then-owner began an extensive restoration of the keep and the surrounding buildings. The current owners took over in 1994, continuing the renovation and modernization of the estate.

The Prunget mill, dating back to the same era as the castle, is one of twelve mills along the Bouzanne River. In 1366, the lord of Prunget declared ownership “of his castle and castellany of Prungé and of the mill of Prungé located on the Bozaine River.” The current building, constructed in 1900, remained in operation until 1968, when Prunget’s last miller, Ludovic Laurier, retired. He continued to live there until his death in 1986.

The recent conversion of the mill into a residence and the restoration of the miller’s house were carried out with great care to preserve the spirit and atmosphere of their original purpose.

Antoine Ottavy

A magnificent, timeless place! The Moulin de Prunget exudes an incredible atmosphere, where you can still see — through a glass wall — the waters of the Bouzanne that once powered the miller’s work! A peaceful place that we were lucky enough to visit with friends. We will no doubt return.

MA7

A magical estate by the water, where peace and tranquility are the key words! The buildings are decorated with taste and refinement, and everything is spotless. You can also enjoy a boat ride on the water. I highly recommend it for a timeless experience — you’ll feel wonderful here.
