7 good reasons to privatize an estate for a big family or friends reunion

For a birthday, a family gathering or a reunion with friends, privatizing a Pierres d’Histoire estate means enjoying a place entirely to yourselves, with tailor-made services, spacious grounds and activities for all ages.

7 good reasons to privatize an estate for a big family or friends reunion

There are moments that deserve more than a restaurant room or an apartment too small to welcome everyone. A birthday no one will forget. Cousins, lifelong friends, three generations gathered for a weekend. For these rare occasions, Pierres d’Histoire opens the doors to characterful homes that can be fully privatized — from a five-bedroom family house to a large estate able to welcome up to sixty guests.

No rows of hotel rooms, no strangers in the hallway. Renting an entire estate means giving yourselves a house, a park, a large table and a place steeped in history, just for you. Here is why more and more families and groups of friends choose to privatize an estate for their reunions — far beyond a simple group gîte.

1. You are truly at home : total privatization, with no one else around

At Pierres d’Histoire, you never simply rent a room: you take possession of an entire place. Each house, each estate can be privatized in its entirety. No shared spaces with strangers, no collective schedules imposed on you. You arrive as you would in a family home, settle in, and enjoy every room, every corner of the garden, from early morning until late at night.

That is what changes everything for a reunion: children can run around, conversations can linger around the table, and everyone can find their own rhythm without disturbing anyone. The luxury of an exceptional place, with the intimacy of a private home.

2. From five bedrooms to sixty guests: a format for every tribe

Not all families and groups of friends are the same size — which is why the collection covers every configuration.

For an intimate gathering, Maison La Clairière, on the edge of the Montmorency forest, offers five bedrooms for ten guests around a heated private pool — a family setting touched by the memory of Queen Hortense, whose name still lives on in the surrounding paths. Maison La Marcotte, near Fontainebleau, welcomes up to eleven guests in its large family home, complete with terrace, covered outdoor space and pool.

And when it comes to bringing the whole tribe together, Domaine de Richebourg brings together its eleven private houses for up to sixty guests, in a three-hectare setting of meadows, river and forest, only forty-five minutes from Paris. Each guest has their own house, garden and privacy — and an entire estate to share.

3. Well-located estates, in the Paris region and across France

Bringing everyone together begins with a simple question: where can you meet without anyone having to travel three hundred kilometres? Several of our estates meet this need for centrality.

In the Paris region, Richebourg in the Yvelines, Courances in Essonne, La Marcotte and Château de Fleury in Seine-et-Marne, or La Clairière in Val-d’Oise, are less than an hour from Paris: ideal when guests are coming from across the region, or even from several cities.

For those dreaming of a change of scenery, the choice extends to all four corners of France. In the heart of Berry, Moulin de Prunget places its stone walls and spa on the banks of the Bouzanne, close to the “Venice of Berry”. In Normandy, Domaine de Ravenoville reveals its classic charm facing the sea: the D-Day beaches just a few steps away, the sea breeze in the gardens, and the scent of the coast as the backdrop to your reunion. In the south, Moulin de Pézenas welcomes up to ten guests among the vineyards of Languedoc, in the shade of century-old plane trees, with natural swimming in the Hérault at the foot of the house. And for mountain lovers, Chalet L’Harmonie welcomes up to fifteen guests at an altitude of 1,500 metres, at the gateway to Serre-Chevalier, one of Europe’s largest ski areas. The place is chosen like an atmosphere.

4. From total autonomy to tailor-made support, you set the tone

This is perhaps the most precious signature of a Pierres d’Histoire stay: you decide exactly how much service you want.

Would you like to manage everything yourselves, in complete freedom? Arrival is autonomous, and the house manager remains present, discreet and available on request, without ever imposing. Would you rather be accompanied so you do not have to think about anything? The house can be organized around you: private chef, delivered breakfasts, massages and wellness treatments, babysitting, sports coaches… as many tailor-made attentions as you wish to compose according to the place and your desires.

It is the complete opposite of a fixed formula: a flexible, elegant setting that adapts to your weekend, rather than the other way around.

5. The table at the heart of the celebration: chef menus to accompany your festivities

A big reunion is first and foremost hours spent together around a table. Pierres d’Histoire works with passionate chefs and caterers, committed to a local and responsible approach, showcasing fresh, seasonal products from short supply chains in each region.

You can create your gourmet moments from a menu, to be selected up to five days before your arrival: welcome supper on the evening you settle in, breakfasts delivered to the house, convivial buffets, festive cocktails, dinners prepared by a private chef — with, of course, vegetarian options and dishes adapted to everyone. From the birthday cake to the big family dinner, the celebration takes place around the table, without anyone having to leave the house.

6. Greenery, water and wide-open spaces, to breathe together

All our estates share one common thread: water, and the nature that surrounds it. The murmur of a river, a centuries-old park, paths to wander along, terraces for long aperitifs in the sun.

At Richebourg, the Sausseron runs alongside a three-hectare park dotted with a meditation island and a brazier for giant barbecues. At Prunget, the Bouzanne borders a private park ideal for walks and picnics. At Pézenas, the Hérault offers natural swimming and its basin in the shade of century-old plane trees. Everywhere, preserved landscapes allow young and old to breathe, far from the noise and bustle of the city.

7. Activities for children and adults alike

Bringing several generations together also means knowing how to keep everyone entertained — and in this respect, some estates have thought of everything.

At Domaine de Richebourg, the day fills itself: a heated outdoor pool overlooking the millstream from April to September, a pickleball court, a multisport court for five-a-side football and basketball, pétanque, a fitness trail, bicycles available along the river, American billiards, table football, board games to take back to your house… and even a sandpit for the little ones. For a wellness break, Spa La Cascade — sauna and Nordic baths — can be privatized for an hour and a half, just for you.

Elsewhere too, there is no time to get bored: private pools at La Clairière and La Marcotte, spa and sauna with free access at Prunget, river swimming at Pézenas, sauna and large garden facing the peaks at Chalet L’Harmonie. Enough to make every day a small adventure, whatever the age of the guests.

Renting an estate, much more than a group gîte

When looking to bring people together, the first instinct is often to rent a large gîte or holiday home. Pierres d’Histoire offers something else: neither a hotel nor a group gîte, but exceptional places fully privatized, operated with the care of an upscale guest house.

The difference can be felt everywhere. Where a classic rental often stops at the keys and cleaning, here a house manager discreetly watches over your stay, chefs compose your meals, and each home carries a true story — a 17th-century mill, a Renaissance château, an estate facing the D-Day beaches. Renting a Pierres d’Histoire estate means enjoying the comfort of a large stay with loved ones, with soul added.

Event famille art 7 raisons de privatiser

For what occasion should you privatize an estate?

  • A milestone birthday — a new decade, retirement, a major life moment: a place of your own to gather those who matter, with a chef and a large table for the evening.

  • A family event — baptism, engagement, multi-generational gathering, reunion of cousins scattered across the country.

  • The annual friends’ reunion — that get-together you promise each other every year and finally deserve to organize in a setting worthy of the memories you want to create.

How to organize your stay

Our estates can be privatized from two nights to several weeks, with late check-out offered on Sundays and public holidays until 5 p.m. except at Chalet L’Harmonie. Long stays benefit from decreasing rates, and weekdays are more advantageous than weekends. A gift card, valid for two years, also allows you to offer a stay to those you love.

To create your reunion weekend, explore our houses and estates, then book online: each home tells a story, and it is up to you to write yours.
