A mythical forest with millenary sandstone rocks listed as a Grand Site of France, royal châteaux, remarkable gardens, artists' villages… The Fontainebleau region is one of Île-de-France's richest playgrounds for a summer stay less than an hour from Paris. Families, couples, groups of friends: every profile finds its programme here, between wild nature, exceptional heritage and French art de vivre.

Private Rental near Fontainebleau : Three Exceptional Estates
At Pierres d'Histoire, you don't rent a room: you take possession of an entire place. Each estate is privatised in its entirety, no shared spaces, no strangers in the corridor. The luxury of an exceptional setting, with the intimacy of a private home.

Château de Fleury, Fleury-en-Bière, Seine-et-Marne (77)
Built in 1550 by Côme Clausse, royal notary to the dauphins who would become Francis I and Henry II of France, Château de Fleury carries five centuries of French history within its walls. Its historic suites in the outbuildings, its promenade canal, its gardens and century-old trees compose a setting of rare intensity, 1 hour from Paris and 25 minutes from Fontainebleau.
In spring 2026, seven additional apartments expanded the collection, a unique opportunity to discover the estate in its full new scope.

Domaine de Courances, Courances, Essonne (91)
The first estate in the collection, opened in 2015 on the grounds of the Château de Courances, whose park is listed as a Remarkable Garden. Fourteen natural springs and a grand 18th-century water mirror create an atmosphere of rare, timeless serenity. Seven private houses (for 2 to 8 guests) and seven hotel rooms blend into the historic hamlet. The Café de Courances, a living space, meeting point and breakfast spot, brings a particular warmth to summer mornings. 50 minutes from Paris, 25 minutes from Fontainebleau.

Maison La Marcotte, Saint-Martin-en-Bière, Seine-et-Marne (77)
A large family house nestled in a 2-hectare park, just steps from the forest of Fontainebleau, La Marcotte embodies conviviality in its fullest sense. Private outdoor pool, vast garden, covered outdoor dining area for large gatherings, spacious dining room for family dinners… It welcomes up to 11 guests in the main house and up to 4 additional guests in its cottage. Perfect for a family stay or a gathering of friends, 50 minutes from Paris.
What to Do in Fontainebleau and the Surrounding Area? Our Summer Selection :
One of the greatest assets of staying at our estates: everything that surrounds them. Pierres d'Histoire provides each guest with a personalised experience guide, local restaurants, cultural sites, nature itineraries, family activities, to be put together before you even arrive.

Hiking in the Fontainebleau Forest
The forest of Fontainebleau, listed as a Grand Site of France and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is one of the largest and most beautiful in Île-de-France. It is home to hundreds of marked trails for all levels: the sandstone rock chaos of the Gorges de Franchard, the panorama of Mont Aigu, the plateaux of Les Trois Pignons. From our estates, Sylvie Vandenbossche (Oxygène Nature) offers guided hikes, Nordic walking or contemplative strolling, between 1 and 2.5 hours

Visiting the Château de Fontainebleau
25 minutes from our estates, this exceptional royal château was the residence of Francis I, Henry IV, Napoleon and many other sovereigns. It opens its doors to summer in full splendour. French formal gardens, the Cour des Adieux, royal apartments: a journey through five centuries of French history. This summer, don't miss the nocturnal tour "Une nuit d'été à la cour" (A Summer Night at Court), scheduled from 4 July to 10 September 2026: emblematic rooms and gardens discovered after dark, in a uniquely atmospheric setting.

Visiting the Château and Park of Courances
Steps from the Pierres d'Histoire hamlet, the Château de Courances opens its Remarkable Garden park at weekends. Canals, water mirrors, green lawns, a Japanese garden: one of the finest parks in Île-de-France, in absolute quiet.

Barbizon, Village of the Painters
A few kilometres away, Barbizon was in the 19th century the birthplace of the Realist movement. Corot, Millet and Rousseau found their inspiration in its undergrowth and clearings. The Auberge Ganne, now a museum, retraces this founding artistic adventure. The village's galleries make for a wonderful extension of the walk.

Vaux-le-Vicomte
40 minutes away, the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, home of Nicolas Fouquet, is the largest private classical ensemble in France. Its gardens designed by Le Nôtre and its candlelit evenings (Fridays and Saturdays from May to October) rank among the most unforgettable outings in the Paris region.

Bouldering in the Fontainebleau Forest
The forest of Fontainebleau is world-renowned as the home of bouldering. Its thousands of sandstone rock routes, accessible without equipment, suit all levels, from families to seasoned climbers. The Oh My Bloc! festival celebrates sustainable climbing here each summer.

Cycling
Pierres d'Histoire provides bicycles for guests to explore sunken lanes, millers' villages and wooded edges. A gentle mode of travel, perfect for connecting Courances, Fleury-en-Bière and the villages of the Gâtinais.

Markets and Local Tables
The experience guides list the best addresses: producers' markets, short-circuit farms, characterful restaurants of the Brie and Gâtinais regions. French art de vivre, just a stone's throw from the capital.
