Forty-five minutes from Avignon, in the heart of the Luberon region, the village of Ménerbes sits perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Cavalon plain. At the top of this charming artists' village stands the Hôtel Particulier de Tingry, an elegant 17th-century mansion. In this enchanting setting, perfect for escape and relaxation, residents have access to all the temporary exhibitions, as the house regularly hosts artists.

As soon as you walk through the door of the Hôtel de Tingry, you are transported into the gentle, peaceful, and intense atmosphere of this place, whose architecture resembles that of an ancient Italian palazzo with its gigantic volumes and majestic stone staircase. In the adjoining salons, numerous paintings adorn the walls. The large windows offer views of the vineyards and the lush Mediterranean garden of Dora Maar below, inviting contemplation and wonder. Meals become moments of joy and conviviality on the outdoor terrace or in the pool house in front of the swimming pool.

When evening comes, everyone can retire to their upstairs apartments, each with a bathroom and a large bedroom for reading, writing, disconnecting, and enjoying an exceptional view of nature.

Like the village itself, where painters, actors, sculptors, musicians, and other intellectuals have long gathered, the house is imbued with a strong artistic spirit that will inspire unexpected creative impulses in visitors.

      Anna Kloots

An absolutely magical experience here with my parents. It felt like sneaking into a stunning home and traveling back to the 17th century. The rooms are huge and beautifully decorated in a period style. It has that warm, ‘European restoration’ feel — not overdone or perfect like a new hotel, and that’s exactly its charm. I booked two of the four rooms — Nancy and Eleanor — and it was perfect, with their own private area across from a book-filled lounge. Common spaces include a large library, a cozy living room, a gorgeous dining room, and a vintage kitchen where breakfast awaits you every morning (some of the best croissants I’ve ever had!). Even the broom closet is charming — I’m not kidding, take a peek! There’s no staff on-site, which makes it feel like you’re living there by chance, but despite that, everything you could need is provided, from Wi-Fi to sunhats and umbrellas. Located on a cobblestone street at the top of the hill (not ideal for those with mobility issues), it offers stunning views from its massive windows. The fresh jasmine growing everywhere even gives it a heavenly scent. If you love adventure and antiques, this is the place for you.
